چکیده

Definition 1: An operation on a set G is a function ∗ : G×G→ G. Definition 2: A group is a set G which is equipped with an operation ∗ and a special element e ∈ G, called the identity, such that (i) the associative law holds: for every x, y, z ∈ G, x ∗ (y ∗ z) = (x ∗ y) ∗ z; (ii) e ∗ x = x = x ∗ e for all x ∈ G; (iii) for every x ∈ G, there is x′ ∈ G (so-called, inverse) with x ∗ x′ = e = x′ ∗ x. Example: Set Operation “+” Operation “∗” Additional Condition N no no — Z yes no — Q yes no “∗” for Q \ {0} R yes no “∗” for R \ {0} R \Q no no —

Constructing cryptographic definitions

This paper mirrors an invited talk to ISCISC 2011. It is not a conventional paper so much as an essay summarizing thoughts on a little-talked-about subject. My goal is to intermix some introspection about definitions with examples of them, these examples drawn mostly from cryptography. Underpinning our discussion are two themes. Compact Lie Groups

The first half of the paper presents the basic definitions and results necessary for investigating Lie groups. The primary examples come from the matrix groups. The second half deals with representation theory of groups, particularly compact groups. The end result is the Peter-Weyl theorem.

A Multi-Formalism Modeling Framework: Formal Definitions, Model Composition and Solution Strategies

In this paper, we present a multi-formalism modeling framework (abbreviated by MFMF) for modeling and simulation. The proposed framework is defined based on the concepts of meta-models and uses object-orientation to overcome the complexities and to enhance the extensibility. The framework can be used as a basis for modeling by various formalisms and to support model composition in a unified man...

Realizable Entities in Basic Formal Ontology

Numerous research groups are now utilizing Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) as an upper-level framework to assist in the organization and integration of biomedical and other types of information. In this paper, we attempt to elucidate the categories of role, disposition, function, and capability in BFO by means of definitions and examples. We also discuss tendency as one variety of disposition, and ...
